Sunday Post -- 6/23/13

The Sunday Post is a meme sponsored by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  It's a chance to share news.  A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

It's been a relatively quiet week for a change -- busy, but quiet.  I'm working on another index, driving my daughter to PT & the gym (great for me -- once I'm there, I may as well work out!) and otherwise muddling along.  The weather's been better (no tornado warnings this week), and life is good.

The one frustration is still being behind on reviews.  I've got about 6 or 8 that I need to either start writing or finish up, and twice that many that I've agreed to read and review.  At least on some of those, I've got until the end of the summer.

The past week on the blog:

The coming week:

  • Review: Close Knit Killer, by Maggie Sefton
  • Top Ten Tuesday:Top Ten Books I've Read in 2013 So Far
  • News & Notes - 6/29/13
  • other reviews TBD

New additions to the hoard:

For Review:

  • The Corpse with The Golden Nose, by Cathy Ace.  I'll be participating in a blog tour for this title, thanks to Lori at Great Escapes Virtual Tours.  Watch for it on August 1!

Challenges:

This week, I signed up for the Cruisin' thru the Cozies challenge hosted by Socrates' Book Reviews.  I've read and reviewed 6 books so far this year; my goal is at least 13.

I'm participating in the year-long NetGalley Challenge sponsored by Red House Books. I forgot to add May's titles until it was too late (darn it!), but I'm trying to do better this month. I've posted three NetGalley reviews so far in June:  His Majesty's HopeThe Newcomer, and Willowleaf Lane.

  1. A good week for you :) No tornado warnings is a very good thing. I like the sound of Cat Nap; yet another book for my library wish list. :D

    1. I've dipped into Cat Nap, and I think it's going to be good, when I have time to read it properly!

  2. The Art of Detection looks like an interesting read. I'm so very behind on reviews. Every time I catch up I find myself 6-8 reviews. I feel your pain!

    1. You know, I've known about The Art of Detection for years, since I'm an avid follower of King's Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes series. But the modern element has discouraged me from reading it for some reason, or maybe it just hasn't been the right time. Anyway, I'm finally getting excited about reading it -- as soon as I get through my backlog of ARCs!

  3. Good luck catching up on your reviews! It can be overwhelming at times. Especially when we get a bit behind, whoops! ;)

    1. Definitely! I'm giving serious thought to reviewing one series (three books) as a whole, instead of treating each book separately.

    1. Willowleaf Lane is the first book I've in that series (it's number five or six in the series.) I would jump into the rest of them if I wasn't so busy with work and ARCs to read! Thank you for stopping by!

    1. Well, I've got another cozy review coming on Monday, as you can see, and a paranormal sort-of-cozy coming the following week, I think. So check back for more recommendations!

  9. Looks like a great week. You know, I tried getting that audio book, but I screwed it up in downloading to what format. I can't open it now. *sigh* I'm just not good at those things. Hope you have a great week.

    1. Oh, that's too bad. Did you download OverDrive Media Console first? As far as I can tell, that's the only way to open the file and the only way to get it onto your iPod or whatever other device. (Blasted DRM!)

I wish you a wonderful week, and better luck with next week's audiobook. Happy reading!

  10. It's hard for me to keep up with reviews if I don't write it as soon as I finish the book.

I'm glad you enjoyed The Newcomer! I love Robyn Carr.

I love to hear what you have to say -- really! Unfortunately, I've been getting a lot of spam in addition to your wonderful comments, so I've had to turn on comment moderation. That means your comment may not post right away. I promise I'll post it -- and answer it -- as soon as I can!
