Sunday Post -- 7/21/13

I had a good week, all told.  Last Sunday, Mr. Bookwyrm and I visited the home and studio/gallery of late 19th-century/early 20th-century painter Gari Melchers, just outside Fredericksburg, Virginia.  It was incredibly hot and humid outside, but the house, which still has all the Melchers' original furnishings and collections, was lovely, and the studio and galleries were very interesting.  Melchers was quite famous and sought-after in his own day, but later fell into obscurity.  His work has been getting much more attention in recent years -- deservedly so.  I was very impressed.

Today we're driving up to Pennsylvania to pick up "Robin" from the Alpha writer's workshop, where she has spent the last week and a half.  Judging from her phone calls and Facebook posts, it's been a fantastic experience, and she has learned a lot.  Coincidentally, I realized early this week that a fellow blogger, Getty of Teenage Book Critic, is also attending Alpha.  Getty posted about the workshop last Sunday. I'm hoping Robin will have a chance to write a guest post about her experiences before she heads off on a family vacation and thence to college.
