Sunday Post -- 8/04/13

The Sunday Post is a meme sponsored by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  It's a chance to share news.  A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Last Sunday, we celebrated our daughter's homeschool graduation -- from Hogwarts.  (Hey, if you're homeschooling, you can name your school whatever you want, right?)  It was a wonderful graduation! I designed a diploma complete with Hogwarts crest, and we ordered a red padded diploma cover and had "Hogwarts School" emblazoned on the front.  "Robin" dressed in her Hogwarts robes and wore the Gryffindor beret she knitted years ago.  We took her out to dinner, I gave a little commencement speech, we presented her diploma, and then we gave her her graduation gift -- a wand from Alivan's.

This week, we'll be frantically packing and shopping for last-minute stuff for college.  We're leaving Friday on our cross-country odyssey.  We'll be stopping to visit family in New Mexico before heading to our daughter's college in Arizona.  Once she's settled in, we'll drive up to Utah to visit my dad and stepmom before heading back to the East Coast.

The whole trip will take about three and a half weeks, and I'm not sure how much blogging I'll be able to do along the way.  I have a few posts scheduled for while we're gone, but since I can't plan ahead for News & Notes or the Sunday Post, I'll probably be skipping those features/memes for the next several weeks.  On the other hand, if I find myself with extra time on my hands, who knows?!  At any rate, I should be back to a more regular schedule in early September.

The past week on the blog:

The coming week:

New additions to the hoard:

For Review:  Thankfully, nothing this week, as I've got a ton of reading to catch up on.

Bought or Downloaded Free for My E-reader:

Free audiobooks from SYNC:  I haven't actually downloaded them yet, but I'll be getting Death Cloud (a YA about a young Sherlock Holmes) and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes from SYNC.

Have a great week (month), everybody, and have fun getting ready for and back to school!  I'll be checking in on the blog as often as I can, but it will probably be a bit erratic.  Since I moderate comments, it might take a day or two for yours to go up -- please be patient!

    1. Thank you, Sandy! It was great. And she was totally not expecting the wand or the personalized diploma cover -- or the commencement speech.

Have a great week, and thanks for stopping by!

    1. I think she's the one with the really exciting days ahead -- a three-week wilderness backpacking trip, whew! And then settling into her new life at college. But I'll try to find enough interesting things to do to keep our lives exciting, too. :-)

  8. Congrats on the graduation! So jealous-I wish my diploma said Hogwarts. (Though, Hogwart's wasn't even close to being written when I was in high school. LOL I guess I could always use whiteout! :D)

I bought Always on My Mind Last Week-love this series. I've seen a lot of people reading Novak's Whiskey Creek series. I have to add the first to my GR shelves. I wonder if the library has those.

Have a great week and enjoy your books!

    1. I will admit to a twinge of envy myself! Though obviously the HP books hadn't been written when I was in school, either.

Our library carries at least some of the Whiskey Creek books. Hopefully, yours does too. Have a good week, and happy reading!

    1. Thanks! Ooh, packing. My bugaboo. Luckily, 'Robin' is doing most of her own packing, but we've been shopping several times to get everything she'll need. And I still need to do my packing!

Have a wonderful week, and thanks for coming by!

    1. Thank you, Jenea! It's even on her official transcript -- luckily the schools she applied to were fine with that. It does make it fun.

I hope you have a great week and enjoy your new books, too!

  13. I love the creativity and freedom that homeschooling allows. That is awesome! I home taught my children too. Our youngest graduated this past spring.
Interesting list of books this week. I have had Never Buried in my reader for awhile. Hopefully I will get to it soon.

    1. Congratulations to you and your youngest! I loved homeschooling, though we came to it late (8th grade.) Being an entire school system is a challenge, but it's worth it. The flexibility and creativity were great.

"Hopefully I will get to it soon." That? Oh, boy, do I know that feeling. That's why I'm cutting WAAAY back on getting freebies, bargains, and library books, and even on requesting books from NetGalley. I need to catch up!

I love to hear what you have to say -- really! Unfortunately, I've been getting a lot of spam in addition to your wonderful comments, so I've had to turn on comment moderation. That means your comment may not post right away. I promise I'll post it -- and answer it -- as soon as I can!
