The big excitement for this week actually takes place tonight, when the children's and youth choruses I direct and the adult chorus in which I sing present our fall concert. We had a good "dress" rehearsal this morning (much too early this morning!), and I'm really pleased. It should go well.
This coming Thursday is, of course, Thanksgiving for those of us in the U.S. Mr. Bookwyrm and I will be celebrating Thanksgiving with just the two of us, but we have so much to be thankful for, it will be no less heartfelt for being quiet! The various branches of our families are all pretty far away, and it just didn't work out to get together this year. I'll still be fixing a turkey dinner with all the trimmings, though. A smaller turkey than the behemoths I'm used to cooking, but a turkey nonetheless. Our daughter, who is in college three-quarters of a continent away, will spend Thanksgiving with one set of my parents and my sister's family (along with a few of her college friends), so she'll be surrounded by family even though we can't be there. We'll see her about two and a half weeks later, when her winter break starts!
What about you? If you're in the U.S., are you planning a big family get-together, or a quiet Thanksgiving like ours? However you plan to celebrate, I wish you a very happy, very blessed Thanksgiving! I also wish a very happy Hanukkah to those of you celebrating that holiday!

I hope you and Mr. Bookwyrm have a wonderful Thanksgiving! I hope your fall concert is wonderful, too!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week and I hope you have more time for reading and find some good books.
Thank you! I wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving, too.
DeleteTime for reading... that would be lovely! :-)
Congrats on the dress rehearsal and good luck with the real performance! I keep seeing Defy around and it's catching my eye. I can't wait to see what you think about it. The cover reminds me of Graceling by Kristin Cashore.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving!

Sandy @ Somewhere Only We Know
Thank you, Sandy! I think we're in pretty good shape for the concert, but I always get a bit edgy on the actual day.
DeleteI was surprised; I really expected Scholastic to deny (pun intended) my request. I'm looking forward to reading it.
Have a great Thanksgiving!
Sometimes quiet Thanksgiving celebrations are just what we need to "recharge" our batteries. Mine usually are, although this year, I will be joining my daughter and one son, with their partners, and then two days later, celebrating with a few more family members.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about Doris Lessing's passing...she was an awesome author.
Enjoy your week! Here's MY WEEKLY SUNDAY/MONDAY UPDATES
It was a tough week for losing good authors. Charlotte Zolotow wrote one of my absolute favorite children's picture books, and she was a fantastic editor besides. Though I know from her daughter's blog that she had memory problems in recent years.
DeleteHave a wonderful celebration with your family. Family is the best part of the holidays - any holidays!
I am so glad you picked up Extracted and I hope you bought it on the one day it was 1.99 Good luck tonight I am sure it will be lovely. My children will all be home for the holiday and bringing dates. My girls have been seeing their young men for a while, so they have become regulars at our table. I am making a 20lbs bird and making extra stuffing since both girls requested take home bags..hahaha!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you'll have a wonderful celebration with your children! I wish you a very blessed Thanksgiving!
DeleteWe'll enjoy our quiet Thanksgiving, but I'm also looking forward to Christmas and Boxing Day. We'll be at my parents' for the former, and then we all get together at my sister's house the next day for a second Christmas dinner and big family party.
Good luck with the concert tonight; I hope it all goes smoothly. Also, Happy Thanksgiving to you and Mr Bookwyrm. I'm also having a quiet holiday, which suits me fine. :D
ReplyDeleteThe concert went beautifully! Thank you for your good wishes. And have a lovely Thanksgiving!
DeleteYour Fall Concert sounds wonderful! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
It went really well. Have a great Thanksgiving, and thank you, too!
DeleteOhhh...I'll need to look at An Edible History of Humanity.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be a quiet Thanksgiving here. Just the 3 youngest at home. We'll watch football, eat then as we do every year kick off the Christmas season by watching Scrooged. lol Thanksgiving weekend is our time to decorate and pick out a tree. :)
I don't think we'll be doing a tree this year, because we'll be away for Christmas. But I do plan to put up some of the Christmas decorations around the house -- the ones the cats can't ruin, anyway!
DeleteHave a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. We live so far away from both sides of our families, we aren't able to spend it with either. We visit Florida once a year and make the rounds to all of them. :)
ReplyDeleteJenea @ Books Live Forever's Sunday Post
It's hard to be so far from family. We used to have my husband's parents nearby, but they both passed away in the last five years, so now it's just us. I have cousins about 2 hours away; I should try to see them more often.
DeleteHave a lovely Thanksgiving, and thank you for stopping by!
Hope you and the mr. have a great Thanksgiving! We're having it at our place this year, with the in- laws coming to visit so that will be nice. Murderous Matrimony looks interesting since I like ren faires, and I'll have to check out Cheryl's book as well.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good week coming up too.
Thank you, Greg! Enjoy having Thanksgiving at your house, and I hope you have time for some reading, too!
DeleteI'd join the e-reader challenge but then I'd have to read 1,000 books! And I still prefer paper books! Happy holidays!
ReplyDeleteLet's just say that I am seriously falling down on the job on this COYER challenge. Partly it's because my e-reader has slowed down so much, it takes too long to get through the books. But I have a huge backlog of unread books on their, and an embarrasingly large number of them are ARCs, freebies, and bargains.
DeleteEnjoy your holidays, too!
I look forward to your review of A History of the World through Six Glasses. I have seen that book at the library, and it looked interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt's good! I hope you'll stop back by for the review.
DeleteI do hope you have a fantastic Thanksgiving. We are spending it with the family. It's one of my favorite holidays.
ReplyDeleteI have the paperback of Extracted. I am reading it next month. Can't wait to see what to read your review!

Because reading is better than real life
*chuckle* My review of Extracted may take a while. I have a backlog of committed reviews to get through first! But it does sound good.
