While we're pretty busy with family and hiking, I have been able to squeeze in some reading and blogging time, so at least there were a few posts for you to read in the last two weeks, and will be some in the coming weeks as well.
Thursday we leave to take 'Robin' to college, and next Sunday we'll go on to visit more family in Utah before heading back home to our newly-empty nest. It's going to feel very odd to be alone in the house after 6 years of homeschooling and being with Robin almost all day. But I've got a lot to keep me busy, from increasing my work as an indexer to writing this blog and directing my children's and youth choruses. And Mr. Bookwyrm and I are making plans for some fun "dates" -- including (I hope!) a visit to the National Book Festival in Washington DC.
The past two week on the blog:

- 8/04/13: Blog Tour, Q&A, Review & Giveaway: The Thinking Woman's Guide to Real Magic. Rita H of My Home of Books is the lucky winner who will receive a new copy of the book. Congratulations, Rita!
- 8/06/13: Top Ten Tuesday - Books I Wish Had Sequels
- 8/10/13: News & Notes - 8/10/13: Jeff Bezos bought the Washington Post; Barbara Michaels/Elizabeth Peters died; SYNC free audiobook downloads; reading habits and publishing; Harry Potter as feminist text; and some great book lists.
- 8/13/13: Dragonwriter: A Tribute to Anne McCaffrey and Pern (review)
- 8/14/13: The Deepest Night (Sweetest Dark #2), by Shana Abe (review)
- 8/16/13: Rose Harbor in Bloom, by Debbie Macomber (review)
- 8/17/13: News & Notes - 8/17/13
The coming week:
- 8/20/13: Top Ten Tuesday - Things That Make My Life as a Reader/Blogger Easier
- Reviews: to be determined
- News & Notes and Sunday Post will probably not post next weekend, since we'll be moving our daughter into her dorm during the latter part of the week, then traveling north to see more family.
New additions to the hoard:
For Review:
Many thanks to Knopf for Mister Max: The Book of Lost Things; to Ballantine for Miracle Road, an Eternity Springs book by Emily March; and to Harlequin MIRA for Candlelight Christmas, Susan Wiggs's new Lakeshore Chronicles book!
Bought or Downloaded Free for My E-reader:
Nothing in the last two weeks, can you believe it?! I'm trying hard to cut back on these. I have plenty of books already in my e-reader that I'm not likely to read, plus more books on my Goodreads TBR and 'someday' lists and on my TBR shelves at home than I could possibly read in the next three or four years, even if I read nothing else. So it's definitely time to cut back! From now on, I plan to only buy or download books I really want to read, or books I've read and want to re-read.
Free audiobooks from SYNC:
As I said two weeks ago, have a great week (month)! For the rest of August, I'll still be checking in on the blog as often as I can, but because I'm not home and very busy with everything we're doing (see the first three paragraphs), I may not get to the blog every day. It might take a day or two for me to read and publish your comments, so please be patient with me!

Hope you had a great holiday!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! We're still on holiday, in a way, through the rest of August. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI'd love to go to the National Book Festival or even at least one book convention. And I love Anne McCaffrey! Safe travels!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the travel wishes! I love McCaffrey, too, which is why I was so excited to read Dragonwriter. As for the book festival, we'll see. I'd really like to go, but I have to fit it into my overall schedule!
DeleteThat sounds like a fantastic week. I've never been hiking, and I wish I could talk my husband int to trying it. Great haul. Hope you enjoy them.
ReplyDeleteJenea @ Books Live Forever's Sunday Post
I'm not much of a hiker yet, but we're working on it. It feels good to be getting more active... I just wish we didn't have so much summer heat and humidity back home! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteEnjoyed seeing your new books and learning about your wonderful travels.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Sunday post:

ReplyDeleteHere's MY SUNDAY UPDATES/MAILBOX MONDAY
I can't quite say I loved it -- I save that phrase for books that really blow me away! -- but I definitely enjoyed Rose Harbor in Bloom, too! Have a wonderful week!
DeleteWishing Robin all the best at her new school! And good luck with the empty nest - I'm sure it will take some getting used to, but hopefully you'll enjoy the extra time for your other pursuits.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week! I'm a new bloglovin follower :-)
Berls @ Fantasy is More Fun
Thank you so much for the follow, Berls! And for the good wishes. You're right, it will take some time to adjust to being empty-nesters, but we'll manage. We're so proud of the young woman Robin has become.
DeleteNow I'm off to check out your blog!
Oh, your trip sounds wonderful! I'm so happy you're having a great time and hiking with your family is wonderful. Robin's college does sound really interesting. A three week backpacking trip is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're getting a little time for the internet as well as lots of family time. Good luck to Robin at college. And good luck with the empty nest, too.
Thank you, Jan! It's been a really great week all around. Thank you for the good wishes -- I'll pass them on to her!
DeleteThat sounds like an unusual college but am interesting one. I hope you enjoy all of your family time!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bea! Yes, very unusual in some ways, but we think it will be a good fit for her. And we are certainly enjoying our family time! Thank you for stopping by.
DeleteNice scene at the Mesa there. And enjoy your week with your daughter before she goes to college. :) Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's beautiful out here -- dry, but beautiful. Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteYes, you got some Christmas books too, hope you son enjoys college and wow what a wonderful trip! Enjoy my friend.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to reading those! Thanks for the good wishes -- I'll pass them along to her.
DeleteSounds like a wonderful trip!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed looking at your photos and upcoming books, have a safe trip!
We're having a great time! Thank you for the good wishes, and I'm glad you enjoyed the post. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteHmm, I'm not seeing my comment from last night. I don't think it went through.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week and enjoy it with your daughter before she heads off to college. :) Take care!
I'm so sorry! It did go through, it's just that with all the family stuff going on, I don't have a lot of time to moderate comments and reply. I thought about going unmoderated while I'm on this trip, but I get an inordinate amount of spam, and some of it is really objectionable. Anyway, please accept my apologies, and I really appreciate both your comments!
DeleteNo problem. :) I forgot you have the moderate on. I was afraid it didn't go through when I posted it. Got a strange comment on my computer.
DeleteSounds like a great college!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed "Rose Harbor in Bloom"! =)
Glad you enjoyed that one! It's definitely an unusual college, but I think it's a good fit for her.
DeleteHope you're having an amazing holiday! Your daughter is so lucky her college orientation seems awesome :) Sorry I haven't been by for ages. Looks like you had a busy week last week on the blog so I'll be checking out last week's posts.
