As you probably know if you read this blog, I read a mix of fantasy & a little SF, mystery, and romance, both adult and YA (and sometimes MG as well.) So here, in order of release date, are the books I'm most looking forward to in 2014 -- at least the ones that have been announced! Sorry, I just couldn't keep it down to 10 titles. (Links take you to Goodreads, or Amazon if Goodreads has no information yet.)
- Unhinged (A. G. Howard) - sequel to last year's Splintered (1/07/14)
- River Road (Jayne Ann Krentz) - a return to classic romantic suspense (1/07/14)
- Cress (Marissa Meyer) - third in the Lunar Chronicles (2/04/14)
- The Shadow Throne (Jennifer A. Nielsen) - third book in the Ascendance trilogy (2/25/14)
- The Chance (Robyn Carr) - the fourth Thunder Point novel (3/01/14)
- Shadow Scale (Rachel Hartman) - sequel to 2012's Seraphina (expected 3/24/14)
- Blood Red (Elemental Masters) (Mercedes Lackey) - Little Red Riding Hood, with werewolves and elemental magic. (6/03/14)
- The Prime Minister's Secret Agent (Susan Elia MacNeal) - the fourth Maggie Hope mystery (6/03/14)
- The Escape (Mary Balogh) - third in the Survivor's Club series (7/01/14)
- The Book of Life (Deborah Hartman) - final book in the All Souls trilogy that began (A Discovery of Witches; Shadow of Night) (7/15/14)
- Unbound (Jim C. Hines) - third book in the Magic Ex Libris series (no date, but I'm guessing next summer)
- Not Quite a Wife (Mary Jo Putney) - Lost Lords #6, Kirkland's story (expected 9/02/14)
- Queen of Hearts (Rhys Bowen) - a Royal Spyness mystery (8/05/14)
There are a number of other authors and books I'm eagerly awaiting, but the books haven't been announced yet, so I don't know if they'll be coming in 2014 or not. Among them are:
- Book 3 in the Kingkiller Chronicle, by Patrick Rothfuss
- the next Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes book by Laurie R. King
- anything by Jessica Day George
- the sequel to Pegasus by Robin McKinley
- any Valdemar or 500 Kingdoms books by Mercedes Lackey (I did just see something about another Mags/Valdemar book, probably next fall)
- the next Cornish Mystery by Carola Dunn
- the third Kindrily book by Karen Amanda Hooper
That's my list! What are you looking forward to?
Yay for Harkness's The Book of Life; I'm so excited for it! \o/ I also read/heard about book 3 from Rothfuss but I also didn't include it because I wasn't sure; the same goes for GRRM's book 6 for ASoIaF (I reckon that will probably be released in 2015 at the earliest ;_;). Great list!

I know; the Harkness is probably the one I'm the most excited about (of the sure things.) As for Pat Rothfuss, I'd rather he takes his time and delivers a book worthy of the first two, even if it means waiting several more years. (Besides, I'll need to re-read books 1 & 2 first!)
DeleteWe're starting to be Jessica Day George fans around here too. Hopefully something new from her in '14. Also like the cover of Rhys Bowen's new one- have not read any of these yet but we have the first one around here somewhere. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Rhys Bowen books are fun and light. And I love Jessica Day George!
DeleteI haven't had a chance to start the Kingkiller Chronicles, but all of my friends are anxiously awaiting the third book's publication. If you need a Rothfuss fix, his blog is pretty fantastic.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is; I follow his blog and FB. Jim Hines's blog is pretty good, too.
DeleteMust read Splintered soon before Unhinged!
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely. This is one series where I don't think coming in partway through will work. Splintered was really good; I seem to like it better as time goes on. It's a bit creepy, though.
DeleteI've added several books from your list to my 2014 book list. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Splintered, but that and Unhinged both look good. Also I didn't know Jayne Ann Krentz had a new book coming out. I'm going to have to take a look at that one. Great list.
Thanks! You might enjoy Splintered; it's YA fantasy based on Alice in Wonderland, with the madness of that world emphasized.
DeleteCress is definitely on my list! I would have listed The Shadow Throne, but I need to read book 2 first! Great choices!

Well, to be honest, I need to read Scarlet before I read Cress, but I've borrowed it from the library and hope to get to it before I leave on Christmas vacation.
DeleteYou are so good and on top of things! I have no idea what's going on including the fact that the sequel to Seraphina is coming out! That is something I can seriously get excited about! Otherwise you've given me some new TBRs. The Maggie Hope series looks interesting as does the A.G. Howard series. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Actually, I had to spend a bit of time checking Amazon and various author websites to see which of my favorite authors had books announced (that I didn't already know about; I knew about a third of them already.) Glad I could help add to your TBR list!
DeleteGreat list! You've got several on there that I still need to read the first book! I'm most looking forward to Kim Harrison's Undead Pool and the next book in Marie Hall's Night Series (release date still tbd, but hopefully next year).
ReplyDeleteBoth of which are series I have yet to try! There are so many good books out there; I wish there were time to read them all!
DeleteYes to River Road. Chance is on netGalley..run
ReplyDeleteI've got my library hold request in for River Road, and just requested Chance from NetGalley. Fingers crossed!
