Sunday Post -- 2/17/13

The Sunday Post is a meme sponsored by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  It's a chance to share news.  A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Thankfully, this week was a little calmer than last week, with no major home repairs!  I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day. I had planned a nice dinner and a movie night, but ended up not feeling well, so I spent the evening in bed with a book.  (The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley -- one of my favorites! I love re-reading an old friend when I'm under the weather.)  Luckily, whatever I had was short-lived, and I was back on my feet within a day.

New arrivals:

  • Spellbinding, by Maya Gold (review copy from Scholastic via NetGalley.) I'm excited to read this!
  • The Valley of the Shadow, a Cornish Mystery by Carola Dunn
  • Beastly, by Alex Flinn
  • The Cabinet of Wonders, by Marie Rutkowski
  • Books Can Be Deceiving; Due or Die; and Book, Line, and Sinker, by Jenn McKinlay (Library Lover's Mystery series). These look like fun!
All but Spellbinding are from the library... and I've got four more on hold to pick up this week.  I need a vacation to catch up on my reading!

      I have almost over 375 books on my Goodreads TBR list -- and that's after pruning a little this morning. I add them faster than I can read them. At least I know I won't run out of things to read anytime soon...

    I love to read familiar favorites when I'm not feeling great, too! And I really enjoyed Beastly - it's a page-turner.

      I enjoyed it; I almost always like Debbie Macomber's books. They can be predictable at times but in a good way. They're like a warm, fuzzy throw you can wrap yourself in for a little while -- great comfort reading.

    Thank you so much for the wonderful comment you left on my blog. I love comments like that. Mysteries are my favorites!! but I like to read most anything that doesn't have vampires, aliens or zombies. :)

      Hi, Lori! You're very welcome. I love mysteries, too... along with fantasy, occasional SF, some romances, history, and a smattering of other stuff. I agree with you about zombies, but aliens are fine with me in a well-written SF novel. Vampires? Not usually my cup of tea, but I love Deborah Harkness's A Discovery of Witches and its sequel.
